The New York Knicks released a statement Friday defending Taylor Swift after guards Tyler Kolek and Miles McBride questioned her courtside fandom on an NBA 2K livestream, the Guardian and NBC News reported.
The Knicks issued a statement praising Swift's support the day after the livestream, according to the Guardian and NBC News.
What the players said
The two players appeared on the livestream Thursday. The Guardian reported they were asked to name the least authentic celebrity fan seen courtside at an NBA game. NBC News reported the question asked for "the fakest celeb fan."
Kolek first said that at Knicks games celebrity attendance is "very performative because like they just want to be seen at the game," the Guardian reported. He then said, "Probably Taylor Swift." NBC News quoted his answer as "Maybe Taylor Swift?" McBride agreed, both outlets reported.
Kolek also said, "I guess she's got a lot going on, so she can't come all the time," according to the Guardian. McBride named actor Ben Stiller and comedian Tracy Morgan as "solid" fans, the Guardian reported.
The team's response
"Taylor Swift has been a Knicks fan for many years, has a long history with Madison Square Garden, and we are incredibly appreciative of her support of the organization," a Knicks spokesperson said in a statement to NBC News.
Unverified
The source material reviewed reports no response from Swift or her representatives.
