The three bodies at the suspect's home
At an evening briefing in Krakow, Tusk first said dead people had been found at the attacker's home, based on drone imagery, and that they were likely two women and a man, probably the suspect's closest family, TVN24 reported. He did not say the identification was confirmed.
RMF24 later reported, citing the Swietokrzyskie police, that the dead are a 21-year-old woman, a 52-year-old woman and a 53-year-old man. National police spokesman Andrzej Fijolek told RMF FM they are the sister and parents of Michal O. Euronews, citing AFP, gave the sister's age as both 20 and 21 in different places.
Police said preliminarily that the deaths were from gunshot wounds, and the bodies were secured for examination. The final cause is not confirmed, RMF24 reported. RMF24 states the three are not among the six dead on the square, so the combined toll is nine, a sum of two separate counts, not an official single figure.
Reports that the suspect's father legally held 11 firearms, that the car was registered to the father and that both were in the same shooting club come from Interia, Onet and WP as relayed by bezprawnik.pl. Police and prosecutors had not confirmed them. That he took a weapon from the family home is a hypothesis reported by TVN24.
Casualties on the square
Six people died on the square, four women and two men, according to the voivodeship office and police via PAP. Police chief Marek Boron said one British citizen and three Polish women are among the dead, and two have not yet been identified, per TVN24 and rp.pl.
Interior Minister Kierwinski said 16 people were wounded including the attacker and two police officers, PAP reported; WP said 11 were Polish and five foreign. A reported figure of 17 wounded is single-sourced and unconfirmed. No reliable count of the seriously wounded exists: figures of "12 critical" and "13 of 16 serious" appear in Ukrainian outlets and are unverified.
Both police officers survived. Boron called their condition serious, TVN24 reported; a voivode's spokesperson told Reuters after midnight both were stable after surgery, according to natemat. Police denied that any wounded person had died, rp.pl reported. Ukrainian outlets, including Ukrainska Pravda, relayed that Ukraine's foreign ministry said no Ukrainian citizens were harmed; the statement itself was not seen.
Investigation and what officials say
Tomasz Waszczuk, spokesman for the Krakow District Prosecutor's Office, said prosecutors would classify the act as terrorist in nature, according to Interia, and WP reported they are working with the ABW internal security agency. No charges have been reported. Prosecutors said questioning may not be possible for hours or days, Interia reported.
Kierwinski said the attacker acted alone and described him as "very radical", with ultranationalist views, WP and TVN24 reported. Security services are examining his background and family, and prosecutors are checking for accomplices, rp.pl said. Police said he held a firearms permit and had no criminal record; Defence Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz denied he had served in the army.
Rumors police have denied
A report of a second attacker, relayed by a police source to PAP, was retracted by Malopolska police about 20 minutes later, Polsat News reported. Early rumors about the attacker's nationality were answered when the interior ministry spokesperson confirmed he is a Polish citizen, rp.pl reported. A figure of 15 people in serious condition circulating in some reports could not be matched to any source.
